"When I was training I tried every conceivable medium as I wanted to explore the whole range of possibilities. Once I began to acquire a certain amount of skill however I realized that oils were by far the most suited to my requirements, technical, stylistic and, not least, practical; I love the rich, creamy texture and the living quality of the colours.

I am also extremely fussy about the surface I work on which has to be absorbent enough that when I lay the paint down on the canvas or board it is whisked off the soft brush and stays where it is placed. This gives me complete control of the paint and allows me to work with precision or to paint with speed and spontaneity."
