"When England won the Rugby World Cup in 2003 I was appointed as the official artist and had the great pleasure of painting portraits of Jonny Wilkinson and Martin Johnson, the two heroes of the hour. These were made into Limited Edition Prints (which were personally signed by the players themselves alongside my own signature), but it meant a lot to me that Martin and Jonny each bought the Original Paintings of themselves."

"Although I am a great admirer of sporting photography as an art form, I do feel strongly that a painting has an advantage over the split second definition of a moment in the camera's lens. The ability to linger over the interpretation and concentrate on the atmosphere can bring a touch of the romantic to something that might otherwise be seen in a purely factual light."
